Question

Please share your PCOS Diagnosis step by step, how many times did you go to the doctor? We're you diagnosed right after an ultrasound or did you take a medication first before having an ultrasound? I'd highly appreciate your answers and I will choose the best one first thing tomorrow. Thank you!

My experience was that it wasn’t diagnosed in just one visit. I first went to an OB-GYN because of my symptoms (irregular periods, acne, and weight changes). The doctor asked about my medical history and menstrual cycle, then requested a pelvic/transvaginal ultrasound and some blood tests to check my hormone levels and rule out other possible conditions.
The ultrasound alone wasn’t enough for the diagnosis. My OB explained that PCOS is usually diagnosed based on a combination of symptoms, hormone test results, and ultrasound findings, not just one test. After reviewing everything, I was diagnosed and only then was I prescribed medication based on my symptoms and whether I was trying to regulate my cycle or get pregnant.
Everyone’s journey is different. Some people are diagnosed after one or two visits if the findings are clear, while others need several appointments and additional tests before the doctor can confidently diagnose PCOS. If you’re currently going through the process, don’t hesitate to ask your OB to explain each step so you understand why each test is needed.
