Real Review

Backrooms, Colony both 👍

Got to watch "Backrooms" and "Colony" and both of them do not disappoint. I really thought I'd be bored with "Backrooms" but it proved to be quite engaging (for me & a lot of other moviegoers who jampacked the cinemas). British actor Chiwetel Ejiofor ("12 Years a Slave," "Doctor Strange") & Norwegian actress Renate Reinsve ("Sentimental Value" and previous films acclaimed at Cannes) ignited much interest on the big screen for "Backrooms." The "horror" in this film relates with traumatic experiences/memories. It also delves into isolation and the eeriness of being trapped in endless surreal rooms. In "Colony," Director Yeon Sang-ho ("Train to Busan") underscores blind conformity in the present age of AI. The movie is somewhat like "World War Z." It traces how a brilliant but psychotic biotech doctor unleashes a fast-mutating virus, wreaking havoc in a modern-day city. The infected victims are shown exhibiting an ultra-fast "collective consciousness" -- and the director conveys that this completely overpowers and destroys human individuality.
