"Ugly Handwriting"

Before I enrolled in Kindergarten, my father attempted to teach me how to write my name. I recall writing my name over and over again on pieces of paper soaked in my own tears while my father shouted insults (as a form of encouragement). My handwriting was not pleasant to look at. It did not improve at all and it just got worst with each page. Even though my strokes began to blur because I was crying the whole time, I did not give up and finished the whole pad. My father thought that he was teaching me how to write but what I really learned was not to give up even if I was mistreated and hurtful words were thrown at me. I carry the trauma and lessons to this day. Motivation through fear didn’t work for me and the funny thing is, my handwriting remains unpleasant.
