Did you know...

- Only about 1 in every 1,000 sea turtle hatchlings survives to adulthood? 🐢 - They can travel thousands of miles across oceans only to return to the exact beach where they first crawled to lay their eggs! -The gender of a baby turtle is determined by the temperature of the sand. Warm sand = More females 🌸 Cool sand = More males 🧊 Conservationists often say: "Hot chicks, cool dudes." - There are only 7 species of sea turtles in the entire world, and 5 of them can be found in the Philippines: Green Turtle (Chelonia mydas) – Local name: Katuan Hawksbill (Eretmochelys imbricata) – Local name: Sisikan Olive Ridley (Lepidochelys olivacea) – Local name: Kantiwan. (sila ung nasa vid) Leatherback (Dermochelys coriacea) – Local name: Balimbing (kc ung ridges nila mukhang starfruit!) Loggerhead (Caretta caretta) – Local name: Bulawon Watching these tiny warriors scramble toward the surf was a powerful reminder of why we protect our coastlines. These Pawikans are more than just cute—they are the "gardeners of the ocean," keeping seagrass beds healthy and coral reefs thriving. But the odds are stacked against them. From plastic pollution to habitat loss and poaching, their journey is a marathon from day one. By supporting local hatcheries and keeping our beaches clean, we give them a fighting chance to return to these same shores decades from now to lay their own eggs. How you can help: 1. Ditch single-use plastics: lagi napagkakamalang jellyfish, their favorite snack. 2. Respect the nesting sites: Keep lights low and beaches clear especially during nesting season which runs from Aug-Feb but peak season is Nov-Dec. 3. Support local conservation: Shoutout to the volunteers working tirelessly to protect these nests! Release date: March 13, 2026
