Is keeping Koi as easy as it looks?

I’ve always been drawn to koi ponds. There’s something so calming about watching them. But are they actually hard to take care of? What do they even eat? Do you need a huge pond for them? I also love how they tend to gather in one spot when someone’s watching like are they curious, or just hoping for food? They're super cute. ;(( Honestly, the idea of having a pond where they swim over to greet you sounds really nice.
